BREAST LIFT
(Mastopexy)
You may consider a breast lift…
- If the cumulative effects of the
natural aging process, pregnancy, nursing, or genetics
has caused your breasts to sag and lose their shape
(ptosis). As the skin looses its elasticity, the breasts
often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag.
- If for personal reasons, you
choose to reshape and cosmetically lift your breasts.
After the procedure, you can expect firmer, more shapely
and youthful looking breasts. (However, if you’re
planning to have more children, you may choose to
postpone your breast lift because pregnancy may stretch
your breasts again and offset the results of the procedure.)
Your Surgery
Breast lift is performed on an outpatient
basis, under general anesthesia. An anchor shaped incision
is made along the natural contour of the breast. Dr.
Bennett sculpts the excess skin and tissue and repositions
the nipple to give the breast a more youthful appearance.
During a breast lift procedure, Dr. Bennett can also
reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding
the nipple. The procedure usually takes from 1 1/2 to
3 hours. You return home in a fitted surgical bra. You
may experience soreness, bruising and swelling, although
medication eases much of this discomfort. You can expect
to have your sutures removed within one to two weeks.
Light activity may be started in a few days.
If your breasts are small or have
lost volume, as they sometimes do following pregnancy—you
may choose Breast
Augmentation in conjunction with your breast lift
that will increase their firmness and their size.
Your Consultation
We invite you to schedule a
private consultation with Dr. Bennett or one of our
nurse coordinators. During the consultation all aspects
of your proposed surgery will be discussed including
preparation, relative risks, recovery, range of fees,
and financing options. We gladly schedule from one to
two hours for your consultation. We encourage you to
ask questions and express your needs and concerns in
a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere.
